Connecting Google Workspace and Slack
For: an admin setting up Stacktic for the first time. Takes about 10 minutes.
What this page does
Settings → Integrations is where you make the two connections Stacktic needs for your whole organization: Google Workspace and Slack. Each one is a full install flow. You can connect, see its status, and disconnect. Only an Owner can use this page.
This page is not where you set up a single tool, like adding an API key for Figma or Datadog. Those connections live on that tool's own page, under its Integration tab. This page only covers the two connections that apply to your whole organization.
Google Workspace
This is usually the first connection you'll make. A Workspace super admin signs in and grants three read-only permissions, which Google calls scopes: users, org units, and verified domains. Stacktic uses them to fill in your employee directory and departments automatically. Without this connection, Stacktic has no directory to build the rest of Phase 1 on.
Once you're connected, this card shows when your directory, departments, and login events last synced. You can also start a sync yourself, or reconnect if Google ever takes away access.
Slack
Connecting Slack lets anyone in your workspace ask Stacktic about your tools. They @mention the bot or send it a direct message. Slack is also how Stacktic sends reminder DMs to task owners. It also posts signal notifications to a channel, which you choose later in Signals settings.
Installing works like any other Slack app. An admin approves the bot in your workspace. Stacktic then matches each Slack account to a Stacktic employee by email.
If the person installing is a Slack admin, Slack also grants a second, user-level token. That token unlocks a couple of extra features, like seeing channels. If the installer isn't a Slack admin, the connection still works, just without those extras.
What you'll see
- Connected: the card shows a green Connected badge, who connected it and when, and a few sync details.
- Not connected: the card shows a Connect button and a short line about what connecting will do.
- Reinstall required: Slack's card shows this if Slack later needs new permissions. Your existing matches aren't lost. You just reinstall to grant the new scopes.
