What Stacktic is (and isn't)
For: any employee. Takes about 3 minutes.
What this is
Stacktic is the one place to look up every tool the company uses. For each tool, it tells you what the tool is, who owns it, who manages it, and how to get access.
It replaces the out-of-date spreadsheet, and the "does anyone know who owns Loom?" question in Slack. If you need to know who to ask about a tool, or you're just curious what the company uses, Stacktic has the answer.
What it isn't
Stacktic shows you what's there. It doesn't take control of your tools. Here's what it deliberately doesn't do:
-
It doesn't buy, renew, or cancel anything. Stacktic keeps track of the tools the company already pays for. It isn't a buying system, and asking it won't get you a new subscription.
-
It doesn't change your access on its own. Stacktic can tell you who owns a tool and who to ask. Giving or removing access is up to that tool's owner or an admin.
- If they've set up an access workflow, you can ask for access through Stacktic. It follows the steps they chose, such as an approval, before anything changes. See Requesting access to a tool.
- Looking something up never changes anything.
-
It mostly answers questions. It does carry out a few kinds of request:
- asking for access to a tool;
- answering an approval that's been sent to you;
- for admins, starting or scheduling an offboarding from Slack.
In each case, a person made the decision. Stacktic doesn't decide anything on its own.
Who it's for
Everyone at the company can look things up. You don't need a Stacktic account for that. Any employee can use the tool registry and the Slack bot. You sign in to the registry with the same Google account you already use for work.
Admins do more. They confirm who owns each tool, keep tool details accurate, and manage offboarding. That work happens in the Stacktic app.
Anyone with a Stacktic account can sign in to the app. That includes a User, who can look around but can't make those changes unless an Owner gives them extra permission.
Where to go next
- Most people: browse the company's tools in the tool registry. Or just ask Stacktic in Slack: @mention it or send it a DM with a question like "who owns Figma?"
- Admins: go to the Tools and People pages in the Stacktic app. That's where you manage tool details, ownership, and the employee directory.
